Australian Open Day 4 : Another day of upsets

Tennys

Tennys Sandgren caused the upset of the day by defeating former champion Stanislas Wawrinka.

Day 4 of this year’s Australian Open saw some mind boggling upsets. Garbine Muguruza crashed out of the tournament in a surprisingly one sided match against Su-Wei. Johanna Konta too departed without putting up a fight against little known Bernard Pera. Birthday girl Angelique Kerber and Maria Sharapova swiftly moved to the third round.

On the men’s side more bad news for the American contingent as Sam Querry lost in four sets to Marton Fucsovics from Hungary. Dominic Thiem was staring at defeat against Denis Kudla after dropping the first two sets. But the Austrian was able to redeem himself and take the next three sets. Julien Benneteau was expected to cause a lot of trouble to David Goffin. He not only caused trouble but inflicted pain on the Belgian by thrashing him in 4 sets. The upset of the day was caused by American Tennys Sandgren in a rather one sided match against Stan Wawrinka. The fact that Wawrinka had little match practice after returning from injury clearly showed in his game.

Roger Federer was tested by the big hitting Jan-Lennard Struff but the Swiss came through in straight sets. Juan Martin del Potro was impressive against a tricky opponent in Khachanov. Gael Monfils started well in his match against Novak Djokovic by taking the first set, but could not really carry the momentum, losing the next 3 sets.

  1. I’m not certain the place you’re getting your information, however great topic. I needs to spend some time learning much more or working out more. Thanks for great information I used to be on the lookout for this information for my mission.

  2. You really make it appear really easy with your presentation however I to find this topic to be really one thing that I believe I might by no means understand. It sort of feels too complicated and extremely huge for me. I’m looking forward to your next submit, I will attempt to get the hold of it!
